Your Presence

You are not alone in your kitchen
even if the silence feels unbearable.
Not alone when you stare at your screen
even when the computer news
tells you to give up.
You are not alone on your walk
even when no one else
is in the park so early.

Why do you imagine aloneness
when you cannot separate
any single thing from any other?
More than physics concepts:
the butterfly effect, entanglement.
At your kitchen table
you sit with stars and ancestors.
Good morning, good morning!

Let the opening rose in the park
nudge you to remember
you are breathing with the plants.
Rose. Hello, hello.
Allow the atoms in your body,
forged in stars and supernovas,
to sing you the mystery of linking.
Let the vast web comfort you.

When you’re gazing at your screen
when despair is sneaking up on you,
close your eyes a moment.
Feel the beat of your heart go on
loving you how many years now.
The pain of the world is real
and the beat of your heart
connects you to the suffering ones.

And to sharing wonders too.
Would you have it any other way?
How we all depend on one another,
every earthling, part of the family.
Soon we’ll get it right, we’ll remember.
You can never be alone. Hello!
Your presence moves my molecules
even as you read this poem.

“Your presence moves my molecules.” Now there’s a line for all you romantics out there. This is a wonderful poem.
Susa,You have always been so articulate on the concept of ONENESS. I bet you have at least a chapbook’s worth on that topic.

    xoxo
