You Had to Grow your Heart

How can anyone conflate boredom
with solitude?
Confuse disinterested weariness
with the liberty of age?
If you are freshly alive,
you don’t lack your luster.

Waiting to greet what’s here,
you keep your imagination
roused
in wide-eyed expectancy
You understand how to linger,
to see and feel what’s next.

No jail named Jaded
captures your crowning years.
For the next adventure
you had to grow your heart this Big!
The crazy courage of old age
sings you into commencement.
