Where Breaking Brings Me Peace

Fragile as an infant
so delicate, she can
be broken simply by neglect.
Fragile as a dying one
whose breaking laugh
she rides to leave.

I tell myself, let it all
break wide open.
The world and my heart.

Are there angels and
am I really god?
Today I cannot bear
immensity of any kind.
Take it away so I can rest.
I cannot stand at any helm.

I tell myself, let it all
break wide open.
The world and my heart.

For now I cease resisting
this ferocious fragility.
What comfort, giving up
all that trying, all that pushing.
Let me float, let me rest
in surrender.

I tell myself, let it all
break wide open.
The world and my heart.

I know, I know, no one else
can chart my way.
But let me lie on the water
and let the river take me
on the ride, oh please, to the sea.
Where breaking brings me peace.
