When the Robin Sings Goodnight
I never heard it ‘til now.
All this living I’ve done,
and its quivering singing
is a new wonder to me.
I could listen all night
but the Robin doesn’t stay, it makes
its tender ringing into dusk
to thank the day,
and lifts away into air,
flying home to rest.
Rufous-Backed Robin, your song
is a mellow warble, leisurely and rich;
with a long and mournful
descending whistle for your call.
Each evening now in spring
you perch and sing
your grateful goodnight blessing.
And in my hammock
beneath the Ciruela tree,
I let your singing fall on me.

This makes my heart smile. I, also, listen to the robin but mine are welcoming the day! Such sweet joy they share!
Thank you, Susa.
