When I Was a Whale

The top of my spine is the place,
where when I was a whale,
my wondrous blowhole
felt the air and water meet.
Now I remember that when I bow,
it’s not subservient.
I bow to open
to grace and power.
Whale reminds me.

The bottom of my spine is the place,
where when I was a whale,
I slapped my glorious tail.
Now I remember
that if I sit too long,
I lose the flexibility.
So I keep my sacrum
sacred, alive and moving.
Whale reminds me.
