What if I didn’t prepare
to say anything back?
What if I only leaned in,
listening wide open
to take in another being.
The quieter I become,
the more I hear.
What wants to be heard
behind the words?
Is she desperate,
demanding attention
to be sure she’s alive?
Let her say
what she needs to say.
Listening could dissolve the gunk
clogging her fountain of vitality.
Listening might let her
empty her heart.
What’s behind her words?
No rush, there’s time to listen.
Everybody wants to be heard.
