What is Large Enough

Collapsing, the whole global order.
This is when we’ve chosen to live,
when destruction engenders
chaos and creation.
In the news, only the chaos.
Wrench your focus away,
not from the suffering but from despair.
Take back your sovereign attention.

Collective grief is here, yes,
we sing the funeral songs.
Damage happening as we breathe.
And, dear member of the living Earth,
healing, happening right now too.
From a hidden canyon in your heart,
free your  passion for the planet
to awaken to the larger story.

While you witness
the anguish and dismantling,
keep your love intact and growing.
Nothing linear suffices.
No either/or, no smallness,
no reliance on the brain.
Only imagining from the heart
gives the view that’s large enough.

Perceiving through the heart,
we rest in it. Listen to it. Act from it.
Our species may die out, or maybe
by transforming from the inside out,
by living generously
with a wide-awake heart,
we’ll create a planetary culture
that honors all earth beings.

Life on Earth  has traveled before
down many implausible paths.
Look at the improbable magic
the quantum multiverse
has already dreamed up.
While we live,
anything is possible.
And in this moment we’re alive.
