Until We’re Not

If you get a diagnosis
that is terminal,
or if you don’t,
we each walk through the portal.
The dying starts
when living does,
and ends when living ends.
If it startles you
to remember you will die,
lucky you,
who still
have a little time
to live with your dying.
We’re alive until we’re not.
