To Catch the Swinging Bar

A parallel self in my dream,
not past, but younger,
set in a different dimension.
I wonder what she teaches me.
I wonder how I might help her.

Next night I return to ask.
Her circus costume sleek, I see
she’s an acrobat, newly graduated
from a challenging balancing course
in her college of Compassion.

She leaves the tent to celebrate downtown.
This parallel adolescent self
walks along the Main Street stores
and disappears into the concentrated scene,
into the bright of many colors.

Goodbye and thanks, I call out to her.
I promise I’ll practice
how to trust and catch the swinging bar.
And when you need a poem, I add,
I’ll be pleased to have you dream of me.
