They Let Me See Them

La Sierra de San Juan Cosalá, belonging to the Sierra Madre Mountain Range
I ride the Mexican bus
on the narrow human strip
between the longest lake
and the emerald mountains.
I become very quiet,
watching the mountains.
They let me see them
swelling into measured waves,
undulating. Undulating!
I close my eyes and look again.
Green, the mountains,
yes, are so slowly rolling.
Moving like waves,
the mountains show me
they are alive. Alive.
From my window seat,
my eyes like saucers,
I bow, and grin. And bow.
