Tending
I tended her and when
she began to open, I brought her in,
I placed her long and thorny stem
in an elegant bottle, and the wonderful water
magnified her fierce and thorny stem.
I carried her blossoming from room to room
as I went about each day.
I watched her petals spread for me.
Her heady smell I had to have
every single time I looked at her.
Inebriate I was, for five long days,
taken over by our love.
But for the rose, those days
were all her life, and I the only love.
From the heartpoint of the rose
I’m the one she came to Earth to love.
Two disparate earthlings speaking adoration.
I chose her, and she chose me
as the partner in her lifetime.
My love for her as deep as hers for me.
But oh, so brief, so perfectly brief.
