Tea in the Garden

photography by Susa SilvermarieA rose plant opens a single bloom,
pink! and aromatic as of old.

The Plumeria tree’s first flower
right this minute unfolds from a bud.

Climbing bougainvillea writes on the white wall
in three shades of calligraphy!

One smell of a tiny jasmine blossom
makes my months of waiting vanish.

Bright rags wave on the clothesline above,
declaring the house inside all clean.

The Ciruelo tree has fancied each branch
with necklaces of a hundred plums.

How, I wonder, did I come to be invited
to this lavish pageant.

Tea in the garden, lemon grass, my own.
Oh  do come, for sharing widens it so!
