Strange Rain Cabañuelas

photo by Tara Short of Green Edventures
When a season changes its rhythm –
like a snow in summer, or
like this morning, in our dry season’s midst,
a strange and steady rain –
the message gets our attention.
Our arrangement of time disrupted.
The flavor of weather spiked,
not with devastation that marshals our behavior,
but with puzzlement that stops us.
Dizzies and disorients.
The portent of changing pattern
of fluctuating cadence in our measured days
feels like the singing of the whales
all at once in every ocean calling. Listen
underneath your mind, to out-of-season rain.
