Slathered

bee macrophotography feeling from a rocket salad flower

One honey bee,
in the course of her entire (month-long) life,
will make 1/12th teaspoon of honey.
As I eat my breakfast of toasted bread
slathered with local honey,
I offer my thanks to every single worker bee
that flew to every single blossom.

For a pound entire, the honeybees
fly 50,000 miles
and tap two million blooms!
Trying to thank each singular bee,
and every individual flower,
for the precious honey thick on my bread,
flies me to skymind right away.

So here I am in the widest focus.
My tongue is zinging
with bodily happiness, my tastebuds
holler hallelujah, and my throat
hums with lusty comfort.
Yes to earthy embodiment!
chants my flashing spirit.

Yes to each beautiful bee
that gave me this honey today.
Yes to each velvety chalice
that gave its nectar with stunning good grace.
Dearest bees, as I lick my plate,
I praise your miraculous workings,
and surrender, completely, to the savor.
