Roses Never Close

photography by Susa SilvermarieThe roses open.
They never close again.
The blossoms die by
spreading and reaching,
by spanning and stretching.
They don’t close,
they die by extending themselves.
Rose blossoms die by ecstasy.

Then they dry and let
perfectly faded petals
fall,
like bodies, back to feed
ancestral roots,
and nourish the firmament of earth.
So more roses
can open.
