Proud Neighbor

My proud neighbor
with petals of such young yellow
on such a firm and sturdy stem
holding such a show-me cup of green,
I thank you for your life.
Nothing sedentary about
the way you’ve lifted up
toward the star you love.
Dear silent sunflower
cut and plucked from soil
for display in tallest vase,
your seeds’ volcanic blackness
fixes the nitrogen of love in my heart.
Show me, show me,
proud neighbor.
Burn me open to flowing.

Oh the yellow tall ones have embraced me in various lines.
Thank you for pulling out my memory, sun flowering.
