Peacemaking Postures

Stay on the edge of anger
without allowing the circumstances
to rob you of your heart.
Be angry at oppression, without
adding your aggression.
In the midst of outrage,
put your hand on your heart
to remember not to lose it.
Be brave enough
for vulnerable love.
When you keep your heart, you stay
connected to all hearts.
Slumped into despair?
Sit up, raise your posture
into physical confidence.
Try a smile, in order that you yourself
get the message it’s okay.
Splash ice cold water on your face,
better yet, put your head under the tap.
Rouse yourself. Dance. Sing.
Then, without either fear
or hope for a certain outcome,
talk to someone, keep breathing,
keep an animal trust in what comes.
You have held in your awareness
in tender meditation,
all your own shortcomings.
Because you have made friends with yourself,
you can be heartful, even
with those who stir your anger or despair.
Be there with your others
the way you can be there
with yourself.
Let your stance
contribute balance to the world.
Is your hand still on your heart?

Good advice. My other meditation teacher gave me a “love the unlovable” exercise.
All of this is very challenging these days when even our compassionate Pope Leo is getting trashed by president #47 who portrays himself as Jesus, (or as dropping poop from a plane on those who resist him.) What did people in the past do when the person who held the nuclear codes was clearly insane? If there ever was such a time…except Dr. Strangelove.
