Our Largest Family

When we pull ourselves up
from our cosmic roots,
we dangle, we dry, we die.
Separation from the stars
makes for grand dis – aster!

Regaining our sense of ourselves
as inter-galactic beings
can make us fully human.
Also fully vulnerable;
open, that is, to change.

Our lives are a series of births,
as we die to a phase of ourselves
and move on into another.
Each birth brings travail,
and the species must be willing,

willing to be born.
To grow past old ideas,
to shift and unsettle the shape of our dreams,
to look at stars and praise our origens.
To join our largest family.
