Not an Empty Metaphor

Emerging from a cave on Crete
She’s feeding us light
every time we sit down to eat.
Food from our Mother
keeps us alive with sunlight.
Not an empty metaphor,
calling Earth our Mother.
The cord of food
made of beings who eat the sun,
connects us to her.
She holds us earthlings close
with her great embrace of gravity.
Each night we go to sleep
somewhere on her breast.
With all we need, she gifts us.
And now she calls us
to turn into light ourselves,
to let light flow through.
Light, breaking through
all the old ways.
