Leap

Voyager 1990
I see our dear blue dot,
a drop in the galactic sea.
I keep this deep space viewpoint,
while in my garden I raise my arms.
I feel myself, infinitesimal,
lifting my eyes from our beloved speck in space.
This tiny holy ball is all we have.
From out there, I watch,
while I hold my presence here.
Home. Aware.
I take my necessary place
as a member of the living earth, and,
as a being in a story far larger.
This tiny holy ball is all we have.
You’d never know that’s where
every earthian thing has happened, ever.
You’d never know that’s the spot
where we, the species-come-lately,
so close to ruining the planet’s wonder,
are about to make our evolutionary leap!
