Kindness You Kindled
If you kindle kindness in yourself,
and you tend it like an infant,
people passing through your life
may draw close and ask.
You can tug the little blanket back
from the kindness you are holding,
so you can show its shining face.
And when you carry
kindness in your arms,
you’ll need to make some space
to gather and receive,
from many friends and strangers
the kindness that
in them you also kindled.
