How to Grow in the Orchard

photography by Susa SilvermariePeach trees
at the Meditation Center: each,
either with a rose planted so close
it coils fondly along a sturdy trunk;
or twinned with a Mulberry bush.
Fragrant open blossoms
dress Peach trees in pink and white.
Branches of fat mulberries
lean on Peach trees in love.
If I had been planted together
with a neighbor so different from me,
maybe from the start I’d comprehend
the treasure of reciprocity.
Green Beings, teach me even now
how to love what is Other,
how to grow in the orchard.
