How Can Humans

Hidden human insecurities
emerge in giant drive-in movies
of what once we all called evil.
The boys of ICE were babies once
who got twisted from their innocence,
children who were taught to hate.

While by human hands the world degrades,
what says love? what does love?
When scars become hard-heartedness
and fear makes ruthless armored anger,
there’s no place left to hide
from what we humans have created.

From another country far away,
I grieve the scenes of bodies broken
by those with spirits crushed to ice.
How can humans find our hearts?
In the midst of wringing chaos
we need to learn to love a larger way.
