Grandmothers Say

The Grandmothers walk with me.
Put aside the mind, they say,
make it the servant of the heart.
Put the heart back in the baby,
they say, in the one you carry.

Every thought
rearranges molecules,
has frequencies,
is a thing with shape and force;
each is pre-matter, formative.

From our collective thoughts
come elaborate displays
of disaster, abundance, peace.
Put aside the mind, start from the heart’s
intelligence, say the Old Women.

Keep your home in your heart,
and run every thought through its chambers.
Listen to the children’s dreams,
put your heart back in.
This the Grandmothers’ counsel.
