Fundamental Things

photography by Susa SilvermarieEarth as living Being,
we her living cells.
Reflecting one another,
relying on one another,
no earthling on her own.
How do we not remember
this fundamental thing,
that Earth is a connected Being?

Everywhere I’ve walked on earth,
I’ve left my microbio imprint.
I’m a literal part of every place
I made my home or traveled to.
Where have you
set your feet, your imprint?
Fundamental, belonging to earth.

Birds in my ciruela tree
heal me with their songs.
I miss specific trees I’ve loved,
and hope they’re doing well.
Khumba, an elephant in Africa
misses me, as I do her.
Fundamental, what relationship is.

Turn on your body app
for aroma, and your abilities,
fundamental, may astound you.
What sometimes seem like gifts
are preinstalled and natural.
Flowers draw the bee to establish
reciprocal regard. Be the latest bee.

The tulip tree’s cups of petals,
female and male part within,
celebrate intersex and, transport us.
Her botanical volatiles bind
with your nerve receptor cells.
‘til you become part tree.
Fundamentally chimeric.
