Enfolded

photography by Susa SilvermarieThe earth enfolds me in its family.
In the morning I see
the waters of the lake, and my seeing
takes me in, so I am joined.
This spot on the shore knows me.
The baby plums
ripen overhead,
and send little laughters
glittering down onto my crown.
The reeds begin to sway,
making love with the breeze.
The world has turned
from a collection of objects
into a community in which
I live as subject.

In evening moonlight, my skin
drinks her touch for the first time.
since this night has never
unfolded until now.
But also the moon
is the very same beauty
that’s brought cool fire in the dark
to touch my skin
and beckon me before,
the same moon that drew me
and saw me pass through my lives.
Subjects in community,
as we change and change,
our family of beings
enfolds us into one.
