Do Seagulls Dream

Do seagulls dream?
If you live by dreaming,
do you need to dream?
Do seagulls dream?
That one on the pier
seems certainly to be lucid,
the air around her
flickers and glistens with presence.

Does the one overhead dream me
down here?
I rode a seagull in my dream.
Whose dream was it, I wonder.
Do seagulls dream?
If it’s their solid state,
then they never
not-dream, how delicious.

I daydream seagull sailing
over blue Lake Michigan.
This is how
I bring her into now.
I wave, and ah, I see
she dips her wing to me.
My seagull totem lifts me
up to ceaseless questions.
