Cosmos

Your seeds are in my hands.
Cosmos, with gratitude
for all you are
in the world,
and in my little life,
I offer you my service.
Tell me where you would alight.
Whenever I’ve encountered
your unpretentious face,
your lightness lifts the corners of my mouth.
Is it the way your stems
love to dance in any tiny breeze?
It’s safe and delighted I always feel,
meeting your spirit medicine.
Cosmos where in my garden
shall I tuck these seeds?
So you can crack, and start
again to love the earth.
Holding your seeds, I feel
your secret colors whirling.
Pinks, vermillions, crimsons.
Already your flowers mingle in my mind
like stars blooming from deep dark.
Is it all as simple as you are?
And before the ether was seeded,
what gardener paused
to consider just where
was each being’s home?
