Breaking Beauty

I want to be like a dragonfly
with thirty thousand views
in each of her eyes.
Let me not look away
from the suffering of so many
on our bursting Earth right now.
Let me look straight-on and steady
at the sorrows on Earth today.
So many someones, hungry.
Weakened bodies
searching for food,
desperate to stay alive.
With the dragonfly’s compound vision,
thousands of facets stitched
into a single mosaic image,
let me not look away.
Let me stay in my heart
while it cracks with mercy
as I bear witness.
Let me stay in my heart
while my awareness expands
while it softens and amplifies
to hold the facets, to hold
the breaking beauty of humans.
