Bliss

I was tucked beneath the bushes
in back of Grampa’s garage.

Shaped like hearts, each lilac leaf.
I drew them smooth across my lips

The scent of lilac
wafting everywhere

lifted me to lightness.
The girl of me safe, the girl of me loved.

Have you ever been there?
Did you find a shielded place?

Today I make safe shelter
gazing at the pine before my eyes.

Today I’m secure inside my skin,
and the lilacs are with me again.

I am the one content,
in bliss beneath the bushes.

Ah yes, in ‘bliss in the lilac’ bushes as a child held me in wonder of the aroma…
And years later to find they surrounded my Utah home in splendor and brought me pleasure. Thank you, Susa
