Balancing Between

From the Latin sancire, to ratify,
comes the word sanction.
But, crazy humans that we are,
it came to also mean
its opposite, a penalty.
In the dream I am singing the word,
and balancing, sometimes barely,
between praise and restrain.

I am a circus Acrobat
carefully happy on the High Wire.
All my life I have defied
patriarchal sanctions,
authority’s rule
against bliss, against women.
Risking joy and freedom,
I author my own life.

Oh happy balance of
peril and possibility.
I ratify my own guidance,
listening more deeply as I age
to the singular voice
that connects me to the communal.
I dive to silence
to hear the singing of the stars.

    I love this!
    “I author my own life.”
It is, unfortunately, an unusual stance for far too many women! Sigh! Keep writing and being you!
