Audacity of Song

Margaret Stricklett, Robert Thieme, Janeene Williams
Sliding smooth, the voices
wind and dance,
two belling currents
gliding easy
on a river’s surface.
The soprano streams
lead each other onwards,
entwine and climb,
rush! argue!
Harmonize.
The voices conjure
kneeling children speaking to angels.
The voices bear
jasmine’s scent
and the warbling run of river.
Partnered voices
glorying in passion
rouse and burst our hearts.
With the audacity of song,
they summon us to love.
