As Stem Cells in a Body We

A meal in three days’ time,
if you’re very lucky, in Gaza.
This misery comes
from the plague called patriarchy
that spreads
from organ to organ
in our larger body, the planethome.
As stem cells in her body, we
must surround the damaged organs,
halt the toxins,
contract and close the wounds.

We now differentiate
into what is needed,
Some migrate to the site,
others called artists release
factors of growth that stimulate repair.
It’s educators who are best
at tissue regeneration.
Some of us can modulate
the inflammatory response
by action of imagination known as prayer.

As stem cells in a body
we surround a wounded organ,
we home to the afflicted places
in the organs we call countries.
With healing we encircle
the patriarchal sickness.
As stem cells in a body we
enfold the hateful poisons
in whatever tiny way
our own hearts guide us to contribute.
