A Quick Kiss

Steady, it drums.
But light, and lilting.
A percussion that sings.
And underneath I hear her chanting:
All’s well, all’s well.

Then she pauses, patters.
Will she pour again?
The runoff from the roof
splashes on the patio.
She’s done, she’s done.

I’ll have to wait
for the rainy season’s long embrace
for rivers gushing in the streets.
It was only
a quick kiss, a quick kiss.
