A Different Dream

Belonging has its drawbacks.
I dream a species scene,
zooming down a freeway
without a steering wheel.
The knowing of how close we are
to cracking up,
catapults me from the dream.
Out of the careening,
I steer into a different dream.
I use strong tea, long shower,

to move my thoughts
from freeway into forest.
I powerlift my thinking
into hope
and what was weighty—
vanishes.
I steer my little dream
and play my part in waking us.
Because we are the hologram
we can change the dream.
