Would Any Flower Hesitate
Would any flower hesitate to open?
I have forgotten
that I come, fresh as dew,
from abundance.
Hummingbirds
stir a whirring music.
I grow in the field of love.
Like a sunflower,
I dare
to bare my whole best self.
Love swoops through,
lifting and unfurling me.
Then, zoop!,
it takes itself away.
Bent toward earth,
heart carved raw,
I acknowledge ending.
Though I notice, underneath, hopes—
with the warning not to raise them.
I change my song, anyway,
to tender petals, and feathers.
