To Walk in Song

Hildegard, I walk in song behind you
down high-arched corridors
where light prisms from stained-glass windows
and the scent of frankincense lingers.
I follow you praising. Praising.

Hildegard! Ho!
You seem not far away, a blink of time,
only as long as it takes to say
the years between us:
eight hundred and twenty-five.

Hildegard, I rise with you to the high blue
where singing air carries me.
En-chanted with your music,
I entrust my entire self
to its immense medicine.
