The Dark Goddess
Three poets drew us down into the velvet Darkness as we sat in a circle at Raven and Crone last night in Asheville. The Dark Goddess in Autumn featured Antiga, Barbara Gravelle, and Annelinde Metzner. The three delivered one poem each, and on around again for an hour of turns. Each poem added its power to the electrifying descent! Each turn added another circle to the spiraling that carried us deeper into the lovely and terrifying female Darkness. Together the three poet Elders melded into a Triple Crone Goddess. Her messages set the small room reverberating with prophecy and unvarnished warnings, with stark beauty and raw power. We listened, we sang, we howled. And we went home facing winter head on with the courage and curiosity of Inanna. Ah yes, this is the way to do down into Winter!
Antiga is a feminist writer, singer and song collector for the empowerment of women. Her work has appeared in Womanspirit, Woman of Power, and We’moon among others. She is known to many of us as “the Beloved Crone.” Antiga and Annelinde will offer a few of Annelinde’s Goddess songs at the reading.
Barbara Gravelle was an active poetic voice in the Feminist Literary movement in the San Francisco Bay area of the 70s and 80’s. Her published works include “Remember Me as a Time of Day” , the WOW Anthology from Malaprops “Poet on the Roof of the World, “The Kythera Poems”, “Dancing The Naked Dance of Love” both from Archangel Books and “Keepsake” Two Window’s Press, Berkeley CA..
Annelinde Metzner is a Black Mountain poet and composer inspired by the Goddess and the Blue Ridge around her. She is a frequent contributor to “The Goddess Pages” from Glastonbury, England, and has her work in the 2014 and 2015 We’Moon Datebooks. She will also try out her newfound skill, the Celtic harp at Raven and Crone!
Dear Susa
It was so good to hear your voice tonight and it resonated with the soulful
depth of the Underworld and the Dark Goddess triad. I feel incredibly blessed to hear of the ritual spiraling down that you and your Crone sisters engaged in. It does seem to be the best approach to Winter, and I truly appreciate you and yours being my/our Guides enroute.
Much love from up here to down there, over the Blue Ridge and into your head & heart.
