Such a Surprise

I displace oppression with belonging.
It isn’t so hard once I understand
what’s tyrannizing me
is my moat of disconnect,
my guarded tower of separateness.

I’m replacing domination, too,
the little ones, you know —
controlling this and that–
with communion.
At first so unfamiliar,
it becomes a habit,
seeking my relation
to people, events, even things.

And since I believed in scarcity,
such a surprise
to find whatever I need –
well, I do have to look —
right on my doorstep.

I hope I may have
enough time left
to grow all the way up and make full use
of my largest Being, before
I move on to another realm.
