A Piercing Call

At the end of May, the rainbirds
sound their longing for water.
A single plaintive note
stretches out
a parched arm begging for wet.
The rainbirds make us hear our wantings.

The rain I want is love and touch.
Like the rainbirds,
I reach with all my being
in a piercing call
for all the hugs and kisses
I have missed.
