Minding Everybody’s Business
How can the world work for everybody, unless we mind everybody’s business? Women friends talking life over with wonder and compassion, quietly animated in neighborhood chisme at the corner store or over the fence – this is a prime way we try to understand life. Patriarchal culture names it gossip. Don’t be fooled. Women listening intently to one another lights up a connection that contributes to quantum connection, a kind of switchboard connecting the universe.
In a poem Mary Oliver asks “When has happiness ever required evidence to begin its leaf-green breathing?” Oliver’s leaf-green breathing is a good way to describe the life-giving nature of what happens when we talk over our lives. and our neighborhoods, when we truly hear one another. Ándale el chisme! Time to mind everybody’s business, so the world can work for everybody.
“Talking life over with wonder and compassion! “
