Letting My Wishes Out

Today when I turn the page in WeMoon 2017, the iconic feminist appointment book, lunar calendar, and art collaboration of international womyns’ culture, I find my own poem. It was written years back, so I get to be startled and pleased by my past self.

I write my desires
out of dark corners
where they have lain ashamed.
I sweep them into daylight!

I claim and polish them, I let
all my wishes out to play.
I pour my desires
that seemed so dangerous

unspoken,
into the shelter of words.
They shine on the page,
naked and holy,

the way they came into the world.
Darling desires
of my deepest heart,
now I come clean as a babe.
