Lecce per Susa
For cities I don’t have poetry, but here are poetic images that have captured me in Lecce. The city shows a visible sweep of centuries, rooting one’s present humbly in the past. When I stand in the Piazza Sant’ Oronzo, I see a panorama of baroque architecture from the 16th century at the same time as I see buildings from the Nazi era; and then the Roman Amphitheatre built in the 2nd century AD suddenly appears, almost intact, a window into the rich past of ancient Lupiae. When I walk to Parco Belloluogo to jog and do Tai Chi, lo and behold, in the middle of the park rises a medieval tower. Here I am alive in many times at once. Here I am multidimensional, and loving it!
So far away, and yet so close. In my heart. Thanks for sharing the beauty Susa.
Susa… I breathe deeper when reading your posts from Italy. Hoping to smell some Italian air in your words. This morning, in Arizona, while reading I heard this… enjoy — Lisa (from Ajijic)
