Kids Aware
At Open Center for Children.
the kids lie on mats for naptime,
and get their backs so softly rubbed
one at a time by staff.
My son called it Happy Time
and now that’s he’s grown,
he remembers it being out-of body,
all the kids in lucid dreaming
or a hypnogogic state,
inventing worlds
and playing in the air above the mats.
Kids aware. Aware.
Let’s all go back
to communal naps,
dancing in other dimensions
til we get it right in this one.
