Join Me
As if I were a cloistered nun
in that Carmelite convent in Iowa,
the one that turned me down
at the age of 18 years,
I see in my 75th year
that what I’m finally
doing with my life—
is holding space for all the world.
What I’m doing each morning now,
is raising arms
high above my head in gratitude
for the glorious gift of life—
on behalf
of all the beings who can’t.

This poem and the magnificent photo of you, Susa, are a balm to me. Thanks for being a poet whose country is the world.
