Inviting My Eye
The daisy stares at me,
its scarlet-dark pupil wide.
How could I be alive and not before
have perceived the thick fringe
of her iris, dotted with pollen,
and the furry red circle around it?
Then the petals! Overlapping layers,
deep orange corona
inviting my eye.
This morning I encounter
a daisy that wakes me,
a blooming that whispers
to me, to me: See!
