In Full Engagement
When I rock on the porch
and stare,
I lose my skin –
Forgetting separation, I leap
into the greens and golds
of forest morning.
Eyes wide open, this is meditation.
I do not escape to another world.
I was born in a body,
I grow and age in a body,
Grateful, I will die in a body.
I do not long for a bodiless world.
The Beauty Way of the Navajos,
the Pagan ways of our own great grandmothers,
tells me my task
is to participate full-bodied,
full-blooded and human,
in the embodied beauty of the world,
And the Old One, the Cailleach,
She who defers to none,
is roaming through the world today,
roaring in every culture’s Elders.
demanding through Elder voices
that we esteem the body.
When I rock on the porch
and stare, when I lose my skin
and forget separation, when I leap
into forest morning,
I rise as body in full engagement
with the shimmering body of sacred Earth.
