I Dream of Earth
I dream of Earth.
I sleep and see her whirling,
rivers crisscrossing her roundness,
the holy oceans never spilling into space;
her rocky ranges puffing outwards
from the quilt of her crust.
I sleep and see
trees high and wide
all around her body,
her creatures crawling on land,
swimming in sea, flying in air;
and her generous embrace
keeping us close, close.
This is where
things are happening.
This is where the gifts
equal the dangers,
where age after age,
at the seams,
plates push out
from fissures in the crust,
and life erupts!
No wonder souls
come eagerly to earth,
this place where sacred things
are happening.
Earth dreams of me.
She sleeps and sees us
sparkling on her belly,
our brief flourishings
in glorious right relation
with her exuberant beauty.
Earth dreams us
alive for awhile. Her dream
creates us, sustains us.
Our dream
creates her, and only
our dream
can sustain her.
