Homo Luminous

photography by Susa SilvermarieWe all are grieving
though so many hide it
underneath our anger and our numbness.
But we cannot heal
from second-hand emotions.
When we reroute our pain
when we cannot bear to sit with it,
the masking of grief keeps us from love.
“Blessed are they who mourn”
Because grieving
makes us leave our falsely comforting aloneness
to take our place in the living world.
It brings us into the kin-dom. *

All of us grieve but now
it’s time to grieve together
past the private losses,
time to grieve together
for ourselves and every other earthling,
time to grieve together
to bury hate and separation.
The grief, when we allow it,
will tear our hearts to pieces —
and put them back expanded.
This is the time for humans
to let the healing grief evolve us
into the species we’re meant to become.
