Her Smile Reached
Past her foreign words I couldn’t catch,
the barista’s smile reached me.
I perceived an unseen strand
flash bright between,
as she gave an angel’s energy,
the touch of her tone
a birdwing brushing my ear.
And don’t we all, even in familiar lands
travel through days as strangers
waiting for such a touch?
But when we let the threads
light up betwixt us passersby,
by eye or smile or simple sign,
an unknown world turns trusty as a clan.
